- Use of a soft toothbrush (or a specially
designed orthodontic toothbrush).
- Interdental brushes fit between the wire and the
tooth to reach hard-to-remove plaque and debris.
- Superfloss or floss threaders are a big help in
flossing with braces.
- Mouthwashes containing fluoride help prevent
cavities from occurring.
- Oral irrigators are an excellent adjunct to
regular brushing and flossing.
- See your dentist regularly to make sure your
teeth and gums stay healthy during treatment. It's suggested that you
have your teeth cleaned professionally by your dental hygienist at least
every three (3) months while your braces are on.
- Avoid hard to chew foods; they often lead to loosened bands and
broken brackets. Try cutting up raw vegetables (like carrots) into
smaller pieces. Stay away from toffee, caramel, and gum; they are
notorious for damaging wires and brackets.
